Tours

We can either advise you on how to do the tours listed below on your own or organize a guide with or without a car.

 

If you would like an organized tour, it is advisable to tell us well in advance, but we can usually also organize it at short notice. Any tour can be adapted to your interests and wishes, or we can organize a specific tour just for you.

 

For a full day tour, the price for up to 4 people is 140 € incl. car and guide/driver, for a half day tour 70 €. For bigger groups, ask us for an offer.

Half Day: Gracanica and Surroundings

  • Monastery of Gracanica: a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and an outstanding example of medieval Serbian architecture with beautiful frescos. Don't miss the souvenir shop where you can buy honey, wine, icons and many other things produced by the nuns.
  • Veletin: The extinct volcano offers the best view of the plain of Kosovo, towards Pristina, Gracanica, the picturesque town of Janjevo, as well as the Kishnica mine and Lake Badovc. In clear weather, the view extends to the whole mountain range surrounding Kosovo. In Roman times, the Veletin was the site of a fire telegraph connected with Novo Brdo and Harilac next to the airport. With a jeep, one can drive almost to the top, otherwise it is a 15 minutes walk uphill.
  • JanjevoOld mining town with previously Croat majority,beautiful half-timbered houses
  • UlpianaAncient Roman town, once one of the biggest in the Balkans, destroyed by Slav invaders in the 6th century. Remains of a temple, basilicas from the 5th century, Roman graveyard. Archaeological excavations are taking place every summer.

Half Day: Pristina

  • Museum of Independance: The small house, once the seat of the Kosovo Writers Association, now shows photos and objects relating to the events that lead to Kosovo's independence
  • Old town: Carshi mosque, Jashar Pasha Mosque, clock tower and Fatih Mosque
  • Ethnological museum: The exhibits in an beautiful Ottoman town house give an excellent insight into the Kosovo-Albanian culture.
  • Bazaar: Small stands sell everything from fruit and vegetables to Chinese watches.
  • Mother Theresa Avenue: the main pedestrian street lined by coffee shops, with statues of Skanderbeg, Ibrahim Rugova and Mother Teresa.
  • Mother Theresa Cathedral: The tower (open from 10am to 12pm, except Sundays, and from 4 to 6pm) offers a panoramic view of the capital 
  • National Library: This landmark of Pristina reminding of a beehive has sometimes been listed as one of the ugliest buildings in the world, but will also be featured at an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2018
  • New Born Monument: Erected in 2008 to celebrate the declaration of independence, it has become the symbol of Kosovo
  • Batusha's house: Apartment complex with 154 apartments built over 15 years without architect, engineer or building permit, subject of an award-winning feature length documentary by Tino Glimmann and Jan Gollob

Half Day: Bear Park and Novo Brdo

  • Bear Sanctuary, Mramor: Park where bears previously held by restaurants in cages can roam freely. Open from 10am to 7pm in summer and 4pm in winter.
  • Novo Brdo: Fortress (open Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:00 or through Fitim tel. 044 132 582)) and remains of basilica of the old mining town situated in a spectacular landscape 
  • Te Xhema, Bunjak/Novo Brdo: A guesthouse made out of tree houses, a true gesamtkunstwerk, with wonderful hosts, traditional food and a phantastic view

Half Day: Kosovo Plain

  • Cave of Gadime: Marble cave with stalactites and stalagmites of differing colours (guided tours every half hour from 8:00 until 15:30, except 12:00 and 12:30)
  • Gazimestan: Memorial tower built in 1954 to commemorate the battle of Kosovo
  • Sultan Murat Mausoleum and Museum: Allegedly standing on the spot where the sultan was killed at the end of the battle. Excellent guide, Muammer (Muki).

Full Day: Western Kosovo

  • Peja (75 minutes drive): Stroll through the inner city, kulla's (traditional fortified houses), bazaar, Bajrakli Mosque
  • Pec Patriarchate (5 minutes drive): A UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site with four churches from the 13th and 14th century (visiting hours 08:00 - 18:00, last entry 17:30)
  • Drive (30 minutes) through the Cursed Mountains National Park, lunch in a guest house on the "Peaks of the Balkans" trail
  • Decan Monastery (50 minutes drive): Another UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in a beautiful setting with beautiful frescos in the church (visiting hours weekdays 10:30 - 14:00 and 15:30 - 17:30, Sundays 10:00 - 18:00)
